{"id":1225,"date":"2020-05-29T16:38:48","date_gmt":"2020-05-29T14:38:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wcs.cs.uct.ac.za\/?p=1225"},"modified":"2020-09-14T12:18:10","modified_gmt":"2020-09-14T10:18:10","slug":"intro-to-coding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/wcs.cs.uct.ac.za\/index.php\/2020\/05\/29\/intro-to-coding\/","title":{"rendered":"Intro to Coding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p>On the 23rd of April 2020, we were thrilled to host an Intro to Coding workshop series sponsored by SOLIDitech which included really fun, interactive and productive weekly projects!<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Over the course of three weeks, our members learnt the fundamentals of building a basic website using HTML and CSS with an opportunity to test their newfound knowledge by submitting projects based on the weeks topic, facilitated by our very own secretary general, Anesu Chaminuka.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Final Project<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>By the end of the workshop series, our members showcased their skills in the Capstone Project.&nbsp;The projects were reviewed based on how well the website caters to a &#8216;<i style=\"font-weight: inherit;\">UCT student&#8217;s need&#8217;&nbsp;<\/i>judged on the following criteria:<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t<ul>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tVisual creativity\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tContent included\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tUser experience\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tOverall functionality.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/ul>\n\t\t\t<h3>CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR TOP 3 WINNERS!<\/h3>\t\t\n\t\t\t<figure><img width=\"1366\" height=\"628\" src=\"http:\/\/wcs.cs.uct.ac.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/2020-08-03-3.png\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/wcs.cs.uct.ac.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/2020-08-03-3.png?w=1366 1366w, https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/wcs.cs.uct.ac.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/2020-08-03-3.png?resize=300%2C138 300w, https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/wcs.cs.uct.ac.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/2020-08-03-3.png?resize=1024%2C471 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1366px) 100vw, 1366px\" \/><\/figure><h4>1st Place: Michelle&#8217;s UCT Tips &amp; Tricks<\/h4><p>Michelle Samawande developed a website catered towards assisting first years\/new UCT Students  navigate around the UCT space. This is a safe space of positive vibes, for a short break from deadlines and stress experienced by students. \nHe received a R500 Takealot Voucher<\/p>\t\t\n\t\t<p><\/p>\n<p>We were so proud of how well our members applied the content taught as well as just how creative they could be! All the projects were so impressive and we want to express gratitude to all of those who participated in the mini-course.
