On the 23rd of April 2020, we were thrilled to host an Intro to Coding workshop series sponsored by SOLIDitech which included really fun, interactive and productive weekly projects!

Over the course of three weeks, our members learnt the fundamentals of building a basic website using HTML and CSS with an opportunity to test their newfound knowledge by submitting projects based on the weeks topic, facilitated by our very own secretary general, Anesu Chaminuka.

Final Project

By the end of the workshop series, our members showcased their skills in the Capstone Project. The projects were reviewed based on how well the website caters to a ‘UCT student’s need’ judged on the following criteria:

1st Place: Michelle's UCT Tips & Tricks

Michelle Samawande developed a website catered towards assisting first years/new UCT Students navigate around the UCT space. It also provides them with information beneficial for their campus experience. She received a R4000 Takealot Voucher.

2nd Place: Savee Student

Tadiwa Madzore developed a student-based platform centralizes information about all the student specials running, 'Must Have' Apps and the hottest places to visit in Cape Town so users can have the ultimate student experience without breaking a sweat. She received a R1 000 Takealot Voucher

3rd Place: Positivitea

Lwazi Sibeko developed a web page for anyone who is feeling stressed, anxious, overwhelmed or just bored, to come and unwind. This is a safe space of positive vibes, for a short break from deadlines and stress experienced by students. He received a R500 Takealot Voucher

We were so proud of how well our members applied the content taught as well as just how creative they could be! All the projects were so impressive and we want to express gratitude to all of those who participated in the mini-course. We hope they’ve learnt valuable skills that they can confidently add to their CV.
